- 3500 B.C. Retinol used by the Egyptians.
Retinol, or Vitamin A, was used by the Egyptians 3500 years B.C. who pressed « roasted ox liver » on eyes to treat blindness. Hippocrates (460-327 BC) mentioned it in Prognosis as did the Assyrians in their medical texts (700 BC).
- 1931 Karrer isolates practically pure retinol from liver oil mackerel
Karrer determined the isolation chemical structure of Retinol.
- 1969 Lancaster began work with Pr. Jarret and in 1976 became 1st brand to introduce retinol in cosmetics. This culminated in them becoming the first brand to patent use of hydrosoluble Retinol in beauty cosmetics in 1976. This discovery was to revolutionize the world of skincare, with innovating new forms : encapsulated Retinol in 1999, Cyclodextrine in 2002, Retinol Matrix in 2005.
